a crafty post

Lindy if you are reading this please quit after the first pic unless you want to see your super late birthday present!!! :)

So our upper floor is going through a bit of an overhaul, again I will explain later but I am in the process of moving my craft room into a different room and not been feeling like going into it lately to craft!
BUT.......I have been feeling the crafty DIY urge!
I don't know if you remember but a while ago my hubby and I went shopping to spend the last of our gift cards from the wedding.
Well one of the thigs we bought were these lamps, for $40 each at Home Sense. Now the lamp base is fabulous, but the shades were this horrible, icky metallic blue. I wanted to find new shades but couldn't find anything I really loved.  Maybe I'm being too picky or maybe I just was really in the mood for a DIY!

Sorry, I didn't take a before picture. I hated them so much i ripped them apart before I thought about it!
I found some fabulous fabric at a warehouse fabric store in Calgary and spent about 1 1/2 hours working on this the other night.

Please forgive the terrible picture, I took this at night!
I am so proud of myself! Now I have to do the other one!! LOL!
Isn't that base fabulous though? I couldn't resist those lamps.

The other crafty thing I made recently is for my neighbour for her birthday. Unfortunately it was over a week ago & I haven't given them to her yet!!
So bad I know!
They are coasters made using 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" tiles and scrapbook paper.
You can find the tutorial here on the cottage home.

I think I have found a use for the thousands of 12x12 papers I have been hoarding for so long!!

I would also some day like to try these ones:

The tutorial can be found here at The Tip Junkie. Which is a super cool crafty blog by the way!

Anyway, that is some of what I have been up to lately.
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Girl....DIY is so fun you'll be hooked. Just like Thrifty shopping. It kills me to buy retail crap now.

Those lamps are fantastic. I bought 2 with that shape in a green glass base and cream shade. I loved them so much that I literally felt pain when I had to return them because the green was just too pastel-y for my house. I still think about them. Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect lamp bases that I can spray paint. Ha.

  2. You are such a clever crafty girl. Your lamp is a gorgeous DIY project and so are the coasters. Thansk for the idea; yes it;s great way to decrease your stash :)
    And they turned out beautiful!
    Have a great weekend!

  3. These projects are fabulous and that lamp is amazing! Great job!

  4. Fantastic projects Kasia! LOVE that lamp and your coasters are bright and fun!

  5. You are so incredibly talented! I have a million DIY projects in my head, but I never seem to find time for them. But I'm going to have to make time for these coasters! Such a great use of my unloved scrapbook paper!

  6. Love the lamp base. Very cool. The coasters are really neat, too. I've done the coasters (just stamped, not paper), but using the paper kicks it up a few notches. Great job!!!

  7. Great lamp, great coasters -- I totally had that same paper, too -- mine became kitchen decor ;)

    Yay for DIY!

  8. Gotta love Homesense, and good for you to make lamp shades that you love to go with the bases you love. And the coasters -- fab!
(You know, I think we might own the same duvet cover! :D)

  9. Wow I love your crafty projects Kasia and those coasters are wouldn't know they are a square of paper on them!
Love the new lampshade, I can see why you love the base, such a cool shape :) Thanks for sharing these.

  10. That lamp really rocks and the shade looks like it has a lot of texture. Very cool!

Thanks for the web sites too!

  11. Ooooo I LOVE your new lamps - and the blue/brown color scheme! Those tile coasters are FABULOUS. Your artistic nature shows in everything you do, friend!

  12. I love your new lampshades and coasters! How fun that you are getting to do some things around the house now that you're stuck at home. LOL Hope your leg is healing well!

  13. I love my new coasters! They're awesome! Thank you so much! And may I add for anyone who might read this, Kasia also made the card that went along with my gift and the box that she packaged the coasters in! Awesome! I really appreciate your thoughtfulness so much!

And, um....I love your lamps! Awesome job and such a fun shape. As soon as I'm done refinishing my bedside tables I'm planning on going to Home Sense. I love that store!

    Thanks again! : )

  14. Love, love, love those coasters!! Your lamp looks terrific too! What a great idea to cover it yourself!!

  15. Wow, a DIY masterpiece! I don't even try to tackle DIY projects....they always turn out horrible! I certainly didn't get my dad's carpentry or mr. fix it genes! LOL

Your coasters are amazing and I agree with someone who said that using paper certainly brings it up a notch! These are so fun to make!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! It really makes my day. :)
