???????

So, I am super new to being "commissioned" to do a card. I like to craft at my own pace, and just let it flow. I have a hard enough time doing the ColourQ challenges!

Our secretary at work is just about the sweetest lady you will meet. She is 73, yes I said it 73, and looks fabulous. One day she pulls me aside and says I hear you make cards? I laughed and of course said yes, then out she pulls this list of cards she would like made!

Now the one I am having the most trouble with, is for her 100 year old brother. A) I am not great at masculine, B) he's turning 100!, and C) the things she would like me to incorporate are the om symbol and the Hindu deity Ganesh.

What in the world was I thinking!
This was all I could come up with, so I thought I would share.

From everything I could find on the internet, gold and red turned up quite a bit and so did circles, so I tried to incorporate that into it.

How did I do? Its OK, you can be brutally honest!! I think I'm going to give it another try, but for now this is it.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week. Thanks for stopping by, and for all of your wonderful and sweet comments. I truly appreciate each and every one. :)

  1. this is hilarious! first of all, you did good with the gold and the circles (my inlaws are indian/hindu)... if your card base would have been a deep red and embossed you'd have hit a home run - the more ornate the better in that culture! I was recently commissioned to make a card for the 100-year anniversary of a company - that was so weird! I was so not happy with the outcome - your card is so much better than what I came up with!

  4. Don't change anything! This is perfect and should fit the request as ordered! LOL! What a peculiar request though huh? I would love to know the meaning behind it. Long life, maybe?

  5. Looks great! I have some hindu friends, and I'm sure they'd love it, too. Though really, wouldn't a 100-year-old love ANYTHING that reaffirmed he was still kickin' it? Ha! That's my theory, anyway :)

  6. You can't say no to a 73 year old lady!!! :> And a card for a 100 year old man plus the details? Super hard!!! I make specific cards for people too and boy is it ever hard. Great way to get me not to craft! I love your card the way it is truly! But if you do want to spice it up and i don't think you need to you could add a red piece under everything with a white border around. Or you could pull out some gems and glam him up a bit!

I sometimes create for commissions and it can be a stressful process!

  8. I think too that is nice as is, even though, i know nothing about the culture. Would love to know what the image means...so interesting and would not mind seeing what this card looks like with the bit of red embosed card stock as Elena suggested.

  9. I think you knocked it out of the park! Especially by staying true to your style, or what I think of your style is!

  10. Brutally honest? Okay then... what an amazing card! It's so hard when you're given narrow parameters, but you nailed it!

  12. LOL! That request would have seriously stumped me! I'm in awe of your card and agree with Karen that you provided what they wanted but the card still has your Kasia-ness. :)

  13. I was really giggling about your post - I mean what are you gonna say-NO? LOL! I completely agree with Elena's comment - my husband is from India and truly the Hindu decor is very ornate (think lotsa gold embossing and RED). However, I think the card is FABULOUS because it is true to your CAS style!
